With a regular MMIL, a patient or primary caregiver can legally possess, transport, or cultivate cannabis for medical use. As for possession, under the California Health and Safety Code Section 11362.77, a patient or caregiver can possess no more than 8 ounces of dried marijuana and cultivate no more than six mature or twelve immature marijuana plants, unless a doctor recommends more for the patient’s needs.

On the other hand, a Medical Cannabis Growers License, sometimes known as a “99 Plant Script,” enables patients to grow up to 99 plants for their own use. This license is designed exclusively for patients who need a greater quantity of medical cannabis, whether it’s because of the severity of their ailment, a higher tolerance to cannabis, or the requirement to produce cannabis derivatives like oils or edibles. A licensed doctor’s medical recommendation saying that the patient needs more cannabis than the usual allowance is required in order for the patient to be granted this license. Similar to the ordinary MMIC, this license’s application procedure involves some additional inspection because of the higher cultivation capacity. Important to keep in mind is that municipal regulations could place further limits, and growers must abide by local zoning, permitting, and cultivation rules. Additionally, all cannabis that is grown must be used by the patient for personal medical purposes; any sale or distribution is prohibited.

Once parental consent is obtained and a physician’s recommendation is secured, the next step is to apply for a Medical Marijuana Card (MMIC) on behalf of the minor. The application must be submitted by the parent or legal guardian, acting as the primary caregiver.
The application process includes a small fee and requires you to provide proof of identity and residency within the state of California. A copy of the physician’s recommendation must be submitted with the application.
